Oklahoma Rose Rocks
(Barite and sand aggregate)
Formed during the Permian era, when ocean waters covered the Western half of the state. Over time the Barite precipitated out of the seawater, and crystallized around grains of quartz sand.

The oceans receded westward, leaving large swaths of the reddish Garber sandstone, where the Rose Rocks can be found today. Geologists still are unsure why the rocks form into the beautiful rose pattern.
